individual therapy

I work with young adults and adults ages 18+ in individual psychotherapy. People come to therapy for many different reasons. Importantly, therapy provides an alternative way to actualize change when you are no longer able to use your internal resources or the feedback from friends and family to cope or shift your feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. I specialize in helping individuals who are experiencing distress, have difficult or troubling relationship patterns, and who want to develop a deeper and broader understanding of themselves. To learn more about how I work and my philopsophy, please see my "background" page.

What to Expect

When you reach out, we will initially schedule a 15 minute phone consultation. This allows for us to discuss any questions or concerns you might have, for me to learn a bit more about what you’re looking for help with, and to talk about scheduling and fees. If we determine that we might be a good fit, then we will schedule an initial meeting.

I view the first few sessions as a time to get to know one another, for me to learn about you and the reasons that you are seeking therapy, and for both of us to determine if we are a good fit. I believe that finding a therapist with whom you feel comfortable and compatible is one of the most important parts of therapy. I encourage my patients to come to a few sessions with me in the beginning to get a sense of how I work and how you feel with me. These first few sessions also allow for me to determine if your needs align with my specialties and if I believe that I will be the best therapist to help you. I have a large network of colleagues across the New York City area and will be sure to help connect you to another clinician if I cannot meet your specific needs.

Sessions are 45 minutes long for individuals and 60 minutes for couples. I generally work with people either once or twice weekly. I prefer to set a weekly appointment time; however, if you are unable to schedule on a regular basis at the same time weekly due to scheduling conflicts or an irregular work schedule I will do my best to work with you.

The amount of time that you are in therapy varies greatly. Therapy is a process and while you may see some immediate results, it generally takes some time and patience before noticing more long-lasting results. Often my patients meet with me regularly for a number of years. However, some individuals come in looking to solve a specific problem or symptom and this might require a shorter course of treatment.
